Counting the mistakes of others...

[Instead of counting your own],
You hide your own [mistakes]...

Mittaa A[n]mrith Kaurraa Thaenoo[n] Lagdhaa
You find the sweet Amrit to be bitter...
ਤੇ ਗੀਤ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਗੌਂਦਾ ਏ
Thae Geeth Bikhiaa Thae Gau[n]dhaa Ae
...and you sing songs of poison

Sadhaa Apnee KhushAamdheedh Thoo[n] Chau[n]dhaa Ae
You always want there to be pleasure for yourself
ਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਜਰਾ ਨ ਜਰੇ
Thae Ni[n]dhiaa Jaraa na Jarae
You can never endure any type of insult towards you
ਮਨਾ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਮਦਾਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਦਿਸੂੰ ਗਾ
Manaa Maeriaa Madhaanaa Koee Dhisoo[n] Gaa
Oh my dear mind, there will be a solution* to be seen
ਜਿ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇ
Ji Aap Dhee Vichaar Thoo[n] Karae
If you reflect to yourself
*madhaanaa - this is a suggested meaning as direct word was not to be found,
Thinking this is madhana as in madhani, like letting the mind churn out a solution

You have come to this earth in order to Jap Naam (meditate upon the Names of Vaheguru)
ਅਵਿਦਿਆ ਨੀਂਦ ਸੌਗਿਆ
Avidhiaa Nee[n]dh Sau[n]giaa
Sleeping in the sleep of spiritual ignorance
ਮੈਲ ਮਿਟੀ ਹੋਕੇ ਡਿਗਨਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ
Mail Mitee Hokae Dignaa Sareer Dhaa
The body is going to fall like the filthy dirt it truly is
ਜੇ ਭਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਥਮਾ ਭਉਂਗਿਆ
Jae Bho[u]N Vaalaa Thhamaa Bhou[n]giaa
If the One (Vaheguru) to be pleased wishes,
then we can receive a pillar of support

The body will die a permanent death at the end

The Boat-Body within this water of this temporary world
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆ ਛਲਾਂ ਔਂਦੀਆ
Vikaaraa[n] Dheeaa Chhalaa Au[n]dheeaa
The waves of vices are coming
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆ
Kaam Krodhh Lobh Moh Aha[n]gkaar Dheeaa
Lust, Anger, Greed, Emotional Attachment & Ego itself
ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਬਡਾ ਹੀ ਡਰੌਂਦੀਆ
Lahiraa[n] Badaa Hee Darau[n]dheeaa
These waves are quite terrifying

ਕਰਮ ਇੰਦਰੇ ਜੋ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਬੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਨਾ
Karam I[n]dhrae Jo Shaekh Ba[n]dh Karae naa
Our limbs* don’t plug the holes [of the boat of our body]
*Karam Indrae are our own motor organs from which action occur: hands, feet, anus, genitals, speech organs (mouth, tongue)
ਤੂੰ ਬੇੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਨੀ ਭਰੇ
Thoo Baerree Vich Paanee Bharae
And you [oh mind] keep filling the boat with water

Roop Thak Dhaa Paraaeiaa Dhhan Lorr Hai Paraaee
Looking at the bodies of other people, others wealth, you keep desiring others’ things/form
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਾ ਨਹੀ
Ni[n]dhaa Thiaag Dhaa nahee
You don’t let go of insulting and slandering others
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਯਾ ਗਾਫਿਲਾ
Moh Maaeiaa Ch Masth Hoyaa Gaaphilaa
You are intoxicated in the attachment to this temporary world
ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ-ਰਾਤ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਨਹੀ
Thoo[n] Dhin-Raath Jaagdhaa nahee
Day or night, you are never truly awake

Thaenoo[n] Maalik Bulaaeiaa Godae Sa[n]gnae
When the Master calls you then your knees get shy
ਤੇ ਜਾਨੋ ਸਤਸੰਗਤ ਟਰੇ
Jaano Sath-sa[n]gath Tarae
You are turning away from going to Sath-Sangat in this way

In order to make yourself understand [your true essence]
ਤੇ ਪਾਕੇ ਬੈਗੇ ਏ ਤੂੰ ਝਗੜੇ
Thae Paakae Baigae Thoo[n] Jhagarrae
Instead you are involved in arguments and disputes
ਜੇ ਪਾਲ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਹ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਟੁਟੀ ਨਾ
Jae Paal Koorr Dhee Thaerae Thoh Thae Jae Tutee naa
If you cannot break this wall of falsehood (reference to Japji Sahib)
ਜਮਾਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਲੌਣੇ ਰਗੜੇ
Jamaanae Phir LauNae Ragarrae
then you will face the suffering of your time
ਤੇਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਨਾਮਿਆ ਦੀ ਕਚੇ ਪਾਡਿਆ
Thaeree Bahuthee naamiaa Dhee Kachae Paadiaa
You give Your fragile clay dish of the body many names (qualities/praises)
ਹਰੇਕ ਸੁਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇ
Haraek Suaas naal Thoo[n] Karae
With every breath, you only think about yourself

The concentration of the mind has broken away from the Shabad
ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੈਹਨ ਵੈਗਈਂ
Thae Chi[n]thaa Vaalae Vaihan Vaigaaee
You’ve been carried away by worries/anxieties
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਨਾਲਾ ਅਕਾਲ ਦਾ
Chi[n]thaa Chi[n]thaa noo[n] Banaalaa Akaal Dhaa
Make your focus and concentration be upon Akaal ~ Immortal-Vaheguru
ਕਹੀ ਦੇ ਪਰੇ ਛਾਨੀ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ
Kahee Dhae Parae Chhaanee Rah[i] Gaee
Instead of the hoe (farming tool ~ which breaks through hard chunks of earth),
there will only be the sieve that is left (meaning, the dirt of the mind is filtered out easily and don't need many be supports/tools required)

Saaree Thrisnaa Dhee Ag Thaenoo[n] Jaam Dhee
The Fire of all the desires has trapped you
ਕਿਉ ਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਤਰੇ
Kio[u] naa naam Jap Kae Tharae
Why not Jap Naam and become saved?

Having seen people leaving this world with your own eyes
ਤੇ ਨਵੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਈ ਜਾਵ ਦੇ
Thae navae Phir Aaee Jaav Dhae
And seeing new people coming into this world
ਬੈਂਕਾ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਸਚ ਦੇਗਿਆ
Bai[n]kaa Likh Kae Likhaaree Sach Dhaegiaa
‘Bainkaa’ has written this and left us with Truth
