Heartbeat IX: Guru Sahib's Rubaaee
-
Giani Gurwinder Singh Ji had been teaching the meanings of Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s 5th Rubaaee and they were praising Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s writing as being so deep and worthy of sharing. Daas had stupidly commented that one could easily relate this to non-dual vedantic discussion. Giani Ji are well knowledgeable in those texts and have taught them to us before. However – at this moment – they pressed me "Let go of the topic of vedant and speak to me about the topic of love". Daas had asked for forgiveness. They speak to us mostly in Punjabi but occasionally speak a few sentences to us in English. At this moment they said: ‘Speak to me about love! Do you love me?’ These conversations of love will allow even the driest and hardest to understand spiritual wisdom trickle into the mind very easily. The following is a translation of an excerpt from Giani Gurwinder Singh Ji Nangli’s Complete Commentary of All of Bhai Nand Lal Ji’s Known Works.

When Bhai Nand Laal Ji completed their Ghazals, they had left Multan and arrived at Sri Damdama Sahib. Bhai Nand Laal Ji presented Ghazalaath-Naamah in the Lotus-Feet of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji Maharaj and recited 3 of the Ghazals to Maharaj as well. After accepting Bhai Nand Laal Ji’s Offering of Love, Guru Sahib recited a Rubaaee (which can be found in a Dasam Saroop present currently at Patna Sahib). After Bhai Nand Laal Ji had completed writing the Ghazals, Guru Sahib commanded Bhai Sahib to write Rubaaee’s. The following is the Rubaaee that Guru Sahib had recited to Bhai Nand Laal Ji.

Rubaaee Paathishaahee Dasvee[n] | Twa Prasaadh[i]
Just like the Ghazal, Rubaaee is another form of Persian chhand [poetic form]. Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji recites through the Kirpa of Vaheguru.

If you wish to play this game of love with me then come to me with your head on the palm of your hand... walk on this path, give your head, and don’t listen to others. Sound familiar?
