Guru Sahib continue to narrate the discussion between Sri Krishna Ji and Arjan.
Sri Krishna Ji address the fact that Arjan is not ready for deep spiritual contemplation and should reflect upon the relationship between his mind and karma.

ਆਗੇ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੀਸਰਾ ਚਲਿਆ ॥
Next is the 3rd Adhiyaye
(Aagae Dhhiaae[i] Theesraa Chaliaa)

ਅਰਜਨੋਵਾਚ ॥ (Arjun-o-vaach; Arjun speaking)
ਚੌਪਈ ॥ (Chaupaee)
ਅਰਜੁਨ ਭਗਵਾਂਨ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨੁ ਬੋਲਿਆ ॥
Arjun spoke after hearing Sri Krishna Ji’s Bachans
(Arjun Bhagvaan Bachan Sun[u] Boliaa;
following along conversation from 2nd Adhiyaye)
ਮਨ ਸੰਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਗੈ ਖੋਲਿਆ ॥
Arjun presented the doubt that he had in his mind
(Man Sa[n]saa Har[i] Aagai Kholiaa)
ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨੌ ਜਨਾਰਦਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ॥
Please listen, tell me Janardhan-Master
(Kahai Sunau Janaardhan Swaa[n]mee; Janardhan = the One who stops us from taking on further births)
ਬਿਨਤੀ ਕਰੌ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥
I request to You, Oh Inner-Knower Prabh Ji
(Binathee Karau Prabh A[n]tharjaamee; Antharjaamee can also refer to that who is within all of the Jaamaa [different clothes of incarnations])

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਥਿਤਿ ਇਹ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
You have said that Brahm-Vaheguru are unmoving/stable
(Braham Sathhith[i] Ih Thum Bhaakhee)
ਫਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਬੁਧੀ ਆਖੀ ॥
Then You spoke about the buddhi which is attached to the unmoving/stable Vaheguru
(Phir Prabh nichal Buddhee Aakhee;
buddhi = decision making faculty of anthakaran)
ਬਹੁੜ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਜੁਧ ਕਿਉ ਆਖੋ ॥
Then how could I continue to speak about the terrifying war...
(Bahurr Bha-eiaanak Judhh Kio Aakho)
ਮਿਸਰਤ ਬਚਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਨਾਂ ਭਾਖੋ ॥੨॥
Sri Krishna Ji did not agree with the reference made by Arjun from Simritee’s [used as reference to avoid not going to war] (Simrath Bachan Prabh Jee naa[n] Bhaakho)

ਇਨ ਬਾਤਨ ਕਰ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜਾਵਹੁ ॥
Discussing these topics will make emotional attachment arise
(In Baathan Kar Moh[u] Upjaavah[u])
ਏਕ ਬਾਤ ਮੁਝ ਕੌ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ॥ 
So please make me understand this one thing
(Ek Baath Mujh Kau Samjhaavah[u])
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹੈ ਸਾਂਤ ਬੁਧ ਹੋਵਾਂ ॥ 
That which will bring my budhhi to peace
(Jo Prabh Kahai Saa[n]th Budhh Hovaa[n])
ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਸਭ ਖੋਵਾਂ ॥੩॥
[and] So that I can become bairaagee (detached/dispassionate) and lose all my egotistic pride
(Bairaagee Ho Abhimaan Sabh Khovaa[n])

ਨਾਹੀ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਮ ਉਠਿ ਕਰੋਂ
At the moment, if I go and fight in battle then it is not because of my Karma
(naahee Judhh Karam Utt[i] Karo[n])
ਤੇਰਾ ਬਚਨ ਮਾਨ ਹਉ ਲੜੌ ॥
But if I fight in battle it is because I will be following Your Bachans
(Thaeraa Bachan Maan Ho[u] Larrau)
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬਚਨੋ ਕਾ ਉਤਰ ਦੇਹਿ ॥ 
Give an answer to both questions
(Dhuhoo[n] Bachano Kaa Uthar Dhaeh[i])
ਮੇਰੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਨ ਲੇਹਿ ॥
Please listen to my request

ਅਰਜਨ ਬਚਨ ਭਗਵਾਂਨ ਸੁਨ ਬੋਲੇ ॥
Sri Krishna Ji listened to the words of Arjan then spoke
(Arjan Bachan Bhagvaa[n]n Sun Bolae)
ਬੋਲਨ ਕਿਆ ਵਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਲੋਲੇ ॥੪॥
What they say next will bring anand to our minds...

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਭਗਵਾਨੋਬਾਚ ॥ (Sree Bhagvaan-o-baach; Krishna Ji's Bachans)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ (Dhoharaa)
ਅਰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀ ਐਸੇ ਕਰੇ ਬਖਾਨ ॥
Sri Krishna Ji said the following to Arjun
(Arjan Prath[i] Gobi[n]dh Jee Aisae Karae Bakhaan)
ਦੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮੁਝ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੇ ਜਾਨ ॥੫॥
There are two commands you will hear from me, this is the first:
(Dho Prakaar Kee Aagiaa Mujh Thae Prithmae Jaan)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ (Dhoharaa)
ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਾਕਰਨ ਸੁਧ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਹਿਓ ਸਾਂਖ ॥
Whoever's Anthaakaran is pure, they should be spoken to about internal spiritual investigation
(Jin Kaa A[n]thaakaran Sudhh Thin Prath[i] KahiO Saa[n]kh)
ਗਿਆਨ ਧਾਰੈ ਵਹੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮੈ ਜਗ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਦੇਂ ਆਂਖ ॥੬॥
They should engrain spiritual wisdom and close their eyes towards the world
(Giaan Dhhaarai Vah[u] Ridhae Mai Jag Thae Moo[n]dhae[n] Aa[n]kh)

ਤੇਰਾ ਰਿਦਾ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਸਮਝੈ ਮੀਤ ॥
Your mind is stuck in parvirthee, it cannot understand spiritual knowledge
(Thaeraa Ridhaa Parvirath[i] Mai Giaan[u] na Samjhai Meeth; parvirthee means increase of desires and material within this physical world)
ਕਰਮ ਜੋਗ ਅਧਕਾਰ ਤੁਝ ਸੋ ਭਾਖੌ ਧੁਰ ਚੀਤ ॥੭॥
So I will speak to you about Karma Yog as you are worthy of that, engrain it in your mind
(Karam Jog Adhhkaar Thujh So Bhaakhau Dhhur Cheeth)

ਕਰਮੌ ਕਰਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ॥
By doing action [in a certain way], it becomes your bhagti,
While doing this Bhagti… love for Vaheguru will increase
(Karamo Karthae Bhagath[i] Hoe[i] Bhagath Karath Hoe[i] Praem)
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀਏ ਤਬ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੋਇ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਦ ਕਾ ਨੇਮ ॥੮॥
When you develop Divine love then spiritual realization will occur, this is the way of the spiritual wisdom
(Praem Kee-ae Thab Giaan Hoe[i] Ihee Baedh Kaa naem)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥ (Dhoharaa)
ਅਰੁ ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ ਛਾਡ ਆਖੇ ਮੈਂ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥ 
If someone states they don’t have karma anymore and says that I am Karma-less
(Ar[u] Jo Koee Karam Chhaad Aakhae Mai[n] nihakarm;
referring to not doing any work nor taking on responsibilities)
ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਮੈ ਹੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਹਨਾ ਭਰਮ ॥੯॥
They who say I am now a Sanyaasee, they are all disillusioned
(Sa[n]niaasee Mai Ho Rahiaa Ih Sabh Kahanaa Bharam; Sanyaasee are saadhus who have renounced the world)

ਚੌਪਈ ॥ (Chaupaee)
ਐਸਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
That person does not attain [true] sanyaas (Aisaa Purakh Sa[n]niaas na Paavai)
ਝੂਠ ਕਹੈ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕੌ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
They are speaking lies and attacked by the falseness
(Jhoott Kahai Mithhiaa Kau Dhhaavai)
ਕੈਸੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਓਹ ॥
Why do we call them false?
(Kaisae Jhoottaa Kaheeai Oh)
ਸੋ ਸੁਨ ਲੇ ਜੋ ਆਖੋ ਤੋਹ ॥੧੦॥ 
Listen to what I am about to say to you
(So Un Lae Jo Aakho Thoh)

ਜਿਨ ਨੇ ਦੇਹ ਧਰੀ ਜਗ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
That who has taken on a body in this world
(Jin nae Dhaeh Dhharee Jag Maahee)
ਸੋ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭੀ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
They are never without karma for even one second
(So nihakaram Ik Pal Bhee naahee) 
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਅਰੁ ਕਾਲ ਪਰਜੰਤ ॥
Those who come into the mother’s womb and face an end of life(From birth to death; from the beginning of time till the end of time)
(Maath Garabh Ar[u] Kaal Parja[n]th)
ਕਰਮੋ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਵਰਤੰਤ ॥੧੧॥
They will always be subject to Karma
(Karamo Maah[i] Sadhaa Vartha[n]th;
if you have taken birth then you are subject to karma)

ਇਸ ਕੇਂ ਜਾਨੇਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਦੇਹ ॥
Without realizing how this works, the body....
(Is Kae[n] Jaanae[n] Binaa Hee Dhaeh)
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਓ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇਹ ॥
...along with the senses/organ, will continue to be subject to karma
(I[n]dhreeO Kae Sa[n]g Karam Karaeh;
karma is caused by desires/expectations associated with actions)
ਬੋਲਨ ਚਲਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ॥
Speaking, walking/travelling, listening are all Karma
(Bolan Chalan SuNan Sabh Karam)
ਲੇਵਨ ਦੇਵਨ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਰਮ ॥੧੨॥
Receiving/taking, giving, seeing are all Karma
(Laevan Dhaevan Dhaekhan Karam)

ਬੈਠਨ ਸੋਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
Sitting and Sleeping should be known to Karma as well
(Baittan Sovan Karam Beechaaro)
ਸਖੋਪਤ ਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੋ ॥
Karma happens within in the deep sleep state among the 2 other states(waking and dreaming)
(Sakhopath Mai Karam Hai Saaro)

ਟੀਕਾਕਾਰਵਾਚ ॥ (Teekaakaar-vaach; Bachans of the Commentator)
ਖਾਵਨ ਪੀਵਨ ਪਹਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥
Eating, drinking, wearing all karma
(Khaavan Peevan Pahran Karam)
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਧਰਮ ॥੧੩॥
The nature of Karma causes people to be bound to experiences of suffering and pleasure
(Dhukh Sukh Mai Sabh Karam Kae Dhharam)

ਲਘੁ ਸੰਕਾ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
Due to having even a little doubt [about the nature of the world],
all the Karma comes to be
(Lagh[u] Sa[n]kaa Sabh Karam Banaa-ae; This is about the nature of expectation of individual dukh or sukh causes karma/action /existence in this world)
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਓ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਹਿ ਗਾਏ ॥
The actions/karma of the senses/organs can be spoken of in this way
(I[n]dhree-O Kae Karam Kah[i] Gaa-ae)
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆ ਵਰਤੇ ਕਰਮੌ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
Senses/organs are used within the sphere of karma/action
(I[n]dhreeaa Varthae Karamau Maahee)
ਜਾਨੇ ਸੋ ਜੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਹੀ ॥੧੪॥
The Spiritually-Realized come to know all of this
(Jaanae So Jo Giaanee Aahee)

ਤਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਦੇਹ ਤੇ ਜੋ ॥
From these, the body is brought into karma/actions
(Thaathae Karam Dhaeh Thae Jo)
ਬਪ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਅਸਕਤ ਮਤ ਹੋ ॥
The Karma of the Body continues from the dead mind
(Bap Kae Karam Asakath Math Ho; as in a mind who is not awake to the truth... continue to come back into incarnation)
ਜੈਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਤੈਸੀ ਦੇਹ ਵਰਤੇ ॥
The body acts/exists and subject to karma
(Jaisae Karam Thaisee Dhaeh Varthae)
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਖੀ ਹੈਂ ਇਸ ਦੇਹ ਜੜ ਤੇ ॥
You are the Witness to this Jarr-Body (Jarr as in unconscious)
(Thoo[n] Saakhee Hai[n] Is Dhaeh Jarr Thae)
ਅਬ ਆਗੇ ਤੁਝ ਅਵਰ ਸੁਨਾਵੈਂ ॥ Now I will tell you about the rest/other things
(Ab Aagae Thujh Avar Sunaavai[n])
ਡਿੰਭ ਜੋਗ ਕੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥੧੫॥
I will tell you about the techniques/ways of Fake Yoga...
(Di[n]bh Jog Kee Jugath[i] Bathaavai)

ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਭਗਵਾਨੋਵਾਚ ॥ (Shree Bhagvaan-o-vaach; Sri Krishna Ji's Bachans)
ਚੌਪਈ ॥ (Chaupaee)
ਡਿੰਭ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
(Di[n]bh Jogee Hai Is Parkaar)
The Fake Yogi [use different word for Dimbh] is in this way
ਜੈਸੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਹੈ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
Just as the Simritees tell them(Jaisae Si[n]mrith Kahai Pukaar)
ਸਭ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰ ਬੈਠੇ ॥
They have controlled their organs/senses
(Sabh I[n]dhree Sa[n]jam Kar Baittae)
ਮਨ ਮੌ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਂਹੀ ਪੈਠੇ ॥੧੬॥
[but] they put poison within their minds
(Man Mau Bikhiaa Maa[n]hee Paittae; poison here could refer to tamoguni or continually inputting things which cause wrong perception inclusive of chasing temporary pleasures)

ਚਿਤਵੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਪ ॥
They only think about that poison
(Chithvai Bikhiaa Hee Ko Jaap)
ਭੋਗੋ ਭੋਗ ਜੁ ਪਾਲੋ ਆਪ ॥
They nourish ideas of only enjoyment and this becomes their identity/own thinking
(Bhogo Bhog Ju Paalo Aap)
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੋ ਇਹ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
Whoever has this thought within their mind
(Jis Kae Man Mo Ih Beechaar)
ਸੋ ਝੂਠਾ ਸੁਨ ਅਰਜਨ ਯਾਰ ॥੧੭॥
They are false, listen Arjun my friend
(So Jhoottaa Sun Arjan Yaar)

ਉਸ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਅਚਾਰ ਸਭ ਝੂਠੀ ॥
The acts and lifestyle of that person is all false/lies
(Us Karthooth Achaar Sabh Jhoottee)
ਬੁਧਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਿਖਿਓ ਮੈਂ ਮੂਠੀ ॥
Their decision making part of mind (Budhhi) is deceived by poison
(that seems sweet)
(Budhh[i] This Kee BikhiO Mai[n] Moottee)
ਮਹਾਂ ਮੂਢਮਤਿ ਐਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
This is an explanation of someone with a horrible, foolish mindset
(Mahaa[n] Mootdmath[i] Aisaa Soe[i])
ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਗਤਿ ਅਬ ਭਾਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧੮॥
Now I will tell you about the Highest State of mind
(Shresat Gath[i] Ab Bhaakhai Soe[i])

ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟਗਤਿ ॥ (Higher Spiritual State)
ਚੌਪਈ ॥ (Chaupaee)
ਉਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਂਹਿ ॥
They keep their mind with thoughts of Vaheguru
(Uh[u] Man[u] Raakhai Maerae Maa[n]h[i])
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਂਹਿ ॥
While the Indriyan (Senses) are doing tasks
(I[n]dhree Kar[i] Sabh Karam Karaa[n]h[i])
ਜੀਓ ਭਿੰਨ ਦੇਹ ਤੇਂ ਜਾਨੇਂ ॥
The Jeev which perceives different forms/bodies
(JeeO Bhi[n]n Dhaeh Thae[n] Jaanae[n])

ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਿਤ ਹੀ ਮਾਂਨੇ ॥੧੯॥
Always knows that these bodies are subject to destruction
(Dhaeh Binaasee nith Hee Maa[n]nae) 

ਤਿਸ ਕੋ ਲੇਪ ਕਰਮ ਨਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
But it does not get caught up with the karma attached to them
(This Ko Laep Karam naa Hoe[i])
ਕਰਮ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਐਸਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
The person who has this mindset is referred to as a Karam Yogi
(Karam Jogee Hai Aisaa Soe[i])
ਅਰਜੁਨ ਕਰਮ ਜੋਗ ਸੁਨ ਮੀਤ ॥
Oh Arjun, listen to this discussion about Karam Yoga
(Arjun Karam Jog Sun Meeth; Karam Yoga = connecting spiritually by continuing to act and live in this world while remaining detached within mind)
ਸਾਂਖ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੀਤ ॥੨੦॥
Profound spiritual discussion does not come to your mind
(Saa[n]kh na Aavai Thaerae Cheeth)

ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਜੁਧ ਹੈ ਧਰਮ ॥
Your Karma based on Your Responsibility is to Battle
(Thaeraa Karam Judhh Hai Dhharam)
ਜੁਧ ਕਰੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਕਰਮ ॥
Fight in battle, this is your Karma
(Judhh Karo Thaeraa Ih Karam)
ਅਰ ਜੋ ਕਹੈਂ ਕਰਮ ਮੈਂ ਛਾਡੇ ॥
And if you say you’re going to avoid this karma
(Ar Jo Kahai[n] Karam Mai[n] Chhaadae) 
ਝੂਠ ਕਹੈਂ ਤਿਸ ਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਢੇ ॥੨੧॥
It is false to say that that you will not lose honour from doing this
(Jhoott Kahai[n] This Path nahee Baatdae; meaning if he tries to avoid war by saying he doesn’t want to fight his family... he is still gonna be called a coward or looked down upon for fleeing his role as a warrior)

ਕਰਮੋਂ ਬਾਝ ਦੇਹ ਨਾ ਰਹੈ ॥
Without Karma, the body does not remain
(Karmo[n] Baajh Dhaeh naa Rahai)
ਅਬ ਜਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕਹੇ ਸੋ ਗਹੇ ॥
So accept what I am saying
(Ab Jith Prakaar Kahae So Gahae)
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥
In this way, listen my friend
(So Prakaar Suno Rae Meeth)
ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰ ਰਾਖੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਚੀਤ ॥੨੨॥
Engrain this within your mind
(Dhrirr Kar Raakho Apanae Cheeth)


Daas has replaced Sri Krishna Ji referring to themselves with Vaheguru.
