Guru Maharaj is now describing the setting of the Mahabharata War & some of the main characters (daas is using the term characters because Maharaj refers to our existence as a dream in which these events take place. They described the creation of these bodies of the Two opposing sides - Pandav & Kaurav - as if they were puppets, see Part 1).
Characters introduced in this section:
Vyas Muni (Great Sage ~ compiler of Vedas, Mahabharata, Purans), King Dhritarashtra (half brother of Pandu, son of Vyas Muni), King Pandu (half brother of Dhritarashtra, son of Vyas Muni), Sanjay (Disciple of Vyas Muni).
(Doharaa)
They were armed/decorated (Singaar BaNaaiKai) for battle (Judh) and when (Jab) they went (Hee Chalae) towards Kurukshetra (Kurkhetra; this is most likely referring to the region of Haryana still known as Kurukshetra)
From (Tin Sio) the Sons (Sut) of Dhritarashtra and Pandu (Dhritraashtr Ar[u] Pandkae), the entire earth started shaking (Sabh Dharti Halai).
When Dhritraashtra saw this (Jabah[i] Dhritraashtra) he spoke these words from his mouth (Mukhah[u] Kahee Yih Baat):
To see such a War (Aaisey Judh Kae Daekhnae), I will also go (Hou Bhee Chalaho) immediately (Taat; as in tatkaal)
Then Vyas Ji (Tab Biaas Ji), the Supreme-Incarnation of Brahma (Param Brahm) said to Dhritarashtra (Kahio Dhritrshaat Maah[i])
In this context, Brahm is used to describe Brahma rather than Brahm; Maharaj refer to Vyas Muni as an Avatar of Brahma; Brahma can also be seen as a personification of Rajogun; this creative energy spawned great classics such as the written form of the Vedas, Mahabharata, Puranas, Brahm Sutras, among other well-known granths):
You don’t have any eyes (Tere To Naetr Nahi; King Dhritarashtra was born blind). What will you go to see (Kiaa Daekhaigaa Jaahi)?
(Soratta)
Hearing such words (Aisaa Bachan Jab Sunio), Dhritarashtra addressed Vyas in a serious manner (Dhritaraasht Biaas Gambheer Sio).
They said the following from their mouth (Mukh Te Tab Aeho Bhanio): If I cannot see then I will listen (Daekhau Nahi Tau Sunogaa)!
Vyaas Ji's Bachans:
After hearing what had been said (Jab Suni Aeh Baat), Vyas Ji replied to King Dhritarashtra (Raja Ki Tis Biaas Daeo[u]):
Listen to what will be narrated to you (Kahae Suno Tum) instantly as it is happening (Taat; short for Tatkaal; meaning immediately) from my disciple Sanjay (Sanjae Mera Sikh Hai)
(Doharaa)
He will be your Charioteer (So Tera Hai Saarthi) and (Ar[u]) he has been commanded to (Hai Sidhh; meaning commanded or otherwise perfected) have great knowledge (Mahaan Sudhee).
Whatever is happening in Bharat (Jo Bhaarat Main Vartasee), he will tell you from all the different ways to explain (Tujhae Kahae Sabh Bidhh)
Sanjay's Response
Sanjay did paid respects/bowed down to Vyas Ji and said to them (Tab Sanjae Parnaam Kar[i] Kahai Biaas Ji Maah[i]):
Based on what you just said to the King (Tum Jo Kaho Raajaa Prat[i]); I will narrate to him (Sanjae Kahihai Taah[i]).
Oh Master (Hae Prabh), the war is in Kurukshetra (Judhh Kurkhaetr Mai)
and we are in Hastinapur (Ar Eih[u] Hasnaapur Maah[i]; if you look at Google Maps, there is a 173km distance between Kurukshetra and Hastinapur [the Kauravs capital])
We are talking about (Kee Baat Ko) such a great distance (Aeitnae Maarag[i]),
How can I be able to tell him (Kio[u] Kar[i] Kahogaa Taah[i])?
The Sage's (Rikho) Bachans
Then Rikhi Ji [Vyas Muni] (Tab Rikh Jee Nae) said the following (Eiouu Kahaa); Listen Sanjay, my Sikh! (SuNaho Sanjae Sikh)
From Jog-Dhiaan (If we try to put it simply then Dhiaan is focus & concentration. There are 8 limbs of Yoga; one of which is Dhiaan; a deep concept so not easy to explain within the notation of a translation; please read Sikhan Di Bhagat Mala~Guru Sahib's Dialogue with Bhai Ajitha Randhawa Ji for a better understanding); you will be able to know (Tae Jaaneeai) about the present, past, and future (Vartmaan Bhoot Bhavikh)
Take your breath to the Dasva Duaar (Dasvaey Pavan Charrhaae Kai; see Dasam Duaar as it appears in Gurbani & reflect; this is something that can't really be explained through words but experienced via Simran) and be able to see the entire war (Sabh Judhh Daekho), Oh friend (Meet)!
I have given you Divine Vision (Dist[i] Dib Tujh Ko Daee; Dib/Drib Drishtee is also another term which cannot be described in words, only understood by those who have been blessed with It; Reflect on Gurbani and understand); in which you will be able to witness (Tis Par Kar[i] Parteet).
Whatever you see (Jo Kichh[u] Daekho), explain it so the King can understand
(So Kaho Raajaa Kae Vidh Maah[i]).
Both of the Armies are in Kurukshetra (Dono Dal Kurkhaetr Main), watch how they are being made to battle (Daekhahu Judhh Karaah[i]; Maharaj breaking 4th wall by telling us to be an observer of this battle; They do not say watch how they are fighting/battling but watch how they are being made to fight/battle; There is nothing outside of Hukam, all thoughts and actions are just Akaal Purakh, The Supreme Actor).
There is a lot to break down in a few chhands written by Maharaj, so that is why these translations are being posted in small sections. Sangat Ji, please accept these humble translations in your hearts. Forgive & correct me for the errors I have made.
